Under NRS 482, service members can avoid penalties if they submit this properly completed and notarized affidavit at the time of registration renewal.
To qualify for the exemption, the deployment dates (beginning and ending) must have occurred when the vehicle registration was expired. Service members must indicate whether their position was Combat or Combat Support and provide their deployment period dates. The form requires the vehicle identification number, license plate, and personal information including Nevada driver's license or identification card number.
This form must be notarized by a Nevada notary public or authorized DMV representative. Pre-signed or improperly executed VP-258 forms will be rejected, resulting in assessment of late fees.
