Originally opening on December 4, 1973, as MGM Grand Hotel and Casino with 2,100 rooms, it was among the world's largest hotels at the time. Following the tragic MGM Grand fire on November 21, 1980, that claimed 85 lives, the property was rebuilt with enhanced fire safety features. Bally Manufacturing purchased the resort in 1986, renaming it Bally's Las Vegas. Caesars Entertainment rebranded it as Horseshoe Las Vegas on December 15, 2022.
