Las Vegas Small Claims Document Preparation and E-Filing

Tiered Las Vegas Small Claims Document Preparation

Lake Mead Mobile Notary provides several levels of client-directed document preparation for customers starting a qualifying small claims case in Las Vegas Justice Court.

The available service levels may include:

  • Small Claims Form Typing
  • Small Claims Complaint and Exhibit Preparation
  • Small Claims Complaint Preparation and E-Filing
  • Complete Small Claims Start Package
  • Multiple-defendant preparation as an added complexity level

These are preparation and fulfillment levels within one small-claims transaction. They should not be treated as separate public CMS services.

The appropriate level depends on how much information and document production the customer has already completed.

Small Claims Form Typing

The form-typing level is intended for a customer who has already made the substantive decisions and can provide complete information for the current Las Vegas small claims form.

The scope may include:

  • Typing the plaintiff’s information
  • Typing the defendant’s information
  • Entering the customer-selected claim amount
  • Entering a concise customer-supplied description of the dispute
  • Entering customer-supplied dates
  • Entering customer-supplied payment or transaction details
  • Basic formatting and completeness review
  • Production of one customer-review copy
  • One ordinary factual correction

The form-typing level does not automatically include:

  • Substantive rewriting
  • Exhibit organization
  • Defendant research
  • Venue determination
  • Electronic filing
  • Filing-fee payment
  • Service documents
  • Hearing preparation

The customer remains responsible for the facts, requested amount, defendant selection, court selection, and legal sufficiency of the claim.

Small Claims Complaint and Exhibit Preparation

This level adds organization of the customer’s initial complaint materials and supporting records.

The preparation may include:

  • Small Claims Complaint preparation
  • Organization of customer-supplied facts
  • Chronological event summary
  • Plaintiff and defendant information
  • Customer-selected claim amount
  • Customer-supplied payment history
  • Customer-supplied credits, refunds, or offsets
  • Review of available contracts, invoices, receipts, photographs, estimates, messages, and account records
  • Exhibit naming and organization
  • Page-order review
  • Conversion of approved records to PDF
  • Separation of unrelated or duplicate materials
  • Administrative exhibit index
  • Customer review and approval

The customer decides which records support the claim.

Lake Mead Mobile Notary does not decide:

  • Which evidence is legally admissible
  • Which evidence is persuasive
  • Which legal theory applies
  • Whether a document should be withheld
  • Whether a witness is credible
  • Whether the customer is likely to prevail

Las Vegas Justice Court currently states that hearing exhibits may be submitted before trial through the court’s designated exhibit procedure or brought to the hearing, with copies available for the court, the opposing party, and the submitting party. Initial exhibit organization therefore does not mean that every supporting record must be attached to the opening complaint.

Only customer-approved documents appropriate for the selected filing workflow will be transmitted with the initial filing.

Small Claims Complaint Preparation and E-Filing

This level adds electronic filing of the approved opening documents.

The scope may include:

  • Complaint preparation
  • Supporting-document preparation
  • Filing-ready PDF production
  • File naming
  • Filing-envelope preparation
  • Entry of customer-supplied case information
  • Selection of the customer-approved filing transaction
  • Filing-fee authorization
  • Electronic submission
  • Initial filing-status monitoring
  • Delivery of the available acceptance or rejection notice
  • Delivery of an available file-stamped copy

Las Vegas Justice Court currently requires electronic filing for its civil case types. The court also requires an email address so that the filer can receive the file-stamped document.

Electronic filing does not guarantee that:

  • The filing will be accepted
  • The selected court is correct
  • The case will be decided in the customer’s favor
  • The defendant has been served
  • The court will process the filing immediately
  • No correction will be required

Complete Small Claims Start Package

The Complete Small Claims Start Package may combine the principal opening-stage services into one controlled workflow.

Depending on the confirmed scope, it may include:

  • Structured small claims intake
  • Plaintiff-information review
  • Defendant-information review
  • Venue-readiness review using customer-supplied facts
  • Prior-demand information review
  • Complaint preparation
  • Exhibit organization
  • Filing-ready PDF production
  • Electronic filing
  • Filing-fee coordination
  • Initial filing-status monitoring
  • Delivery of available filing records
  • Post-filing administrative checklist
  • Identification of the documents that must be provided to the customer’s independently selected service provider
  • Identification of the proof-of-service filing step
  • Initial case-record organization

The complete package does not include legal advice, formal service of process, court appearance, hearing preparation, judgment enforcement, appeal, or representation.

A customer who needs formal service must work directly with an appropriately authorized process server, sheriff, or constable.

Multiple-Defendant Preparation

Multiple defendants remain an added-complexity level within this service.

They do not require a separate CMS page.

A multiple-defendant matter may require:

  • Exact legal name for each defendant
  • Separate individual or entity classification
  • Separate address for each defendant
  • Registered-agent information for a business
  • Review of whether the same factual allegations apply to every defendant
  • Identification of each defendant’s role
  • Organization of defendant-specific records
  • Additional complaint sections
  • Additional filing information
  • Separate service packet for each defendant
  • Separate proof of service for each defendant
  • Additional copies
  • Additional filing or service coordination by the customer

Each defendant must receive the required service documents, and a separate service record may be required for each defendant.

Lake Mead Mobile Notary does not decide whether several people or entities are legally responsible for the same claim.

Small Claims Scope

Ordinary Nevada small claims proceedings generally concern recovery of money within the statutory small-claims limit. Proper venue may depend on where a defendant resides, does business, or is employed, where an injury occurred, or where a contractual obligation was to be performed.

This service may be appropriate when the customer:

  • Seeks a money judgment
  • Has selected Las Vegas Justice Court
  • Can identify the defendant
  • Can provide an address for the defendant
  • Can state the amount requested
  • Can explain how that amount was calculated
  • Can describe the underlying events
  • Can provide supporting records
  • Can identify any prior demand for payment
  • Does not require Lake Mead Mobile Notary to provide legal advice or representation

This service is not intended for a customer primarily seeking:

  • Return or possession of property
  • Eviction
  • Injunctive relief
  • Protection order
  • Child custody or support
  • Criminal prosecution
  • Probate relief
  • Title adjudication
  • Business dissolution
  • Another remedy outside ordinary small claims jurisdiction

Prior Demand for Payment

A separate written demand letter is not treated as a universal prerequisite for this Las Vegas service.

Las Vegas Justice Court’s current FAQ states that a written demand letter is not required when the customer has previously demanded the amount through a verbal demand, email, text message, or letter. The Civil Law Self-Help Center similarly states that Las Vegas filers may skip the formal demand-letter step and proceed to complaint preparation.

The customer should nevertheless provide information concerning any prior demand, including:

  • Date of the demand
  • Method used
  • Amount demanded
  • Person or business contacted
  • Response received
  • Payment offered
  • Partial payment received
  • Settlement communication
  • Copies of emails, texts, or letters
  • Certified-mail records when available

A written demand letter may still be useful or may be required by a particular agreement, statute, fee-waiver workflow, recipient instruction, or customer-selected strategy.

When expressly included in the confirmed Complete Small Claims Start Package, Lake Mead Mobile Notary may prepare a client-directed written demand from customer-supplied facts. Mailing and tracking remain separately confirmed fulfillment steps.

Defendant Identification

The customer is responsible for identifying the person or entity to be named.

Potential defendants may include:

  • Individual
  • Corporation
  • Limited-liability company
  • Partnership
  • Sole proprietor
  • Contractor
  • Landlord
  • Property manager
  • Employer
  • Registered agent
  • Estate
  • Trust
  • Government entity
  • Another legal or commercial party

Additional review may be required when:

  • A business uses a trade name
  • The business is inactive or dissolved
  • The customer dealt with several related businesses
  • More than one person signed the agreement
  • The customer does not know who received the money
  • The property owner and property manager are different
  • A contractor used subcontractors
  • The defendant is outside Nevada
  • The defendant’s address is unknown
  • The dispute involves an estate or trust

Lake Mead Mobile Notary does not investigate liability or decide whom the customer should sue.

Claim Amount

The customer must provide the exact amount requested and the factual calculation supporting it.

The calculation may reference customer-supplied items such as:

  • Unpaid invoice
  • Deposit
  • Repair cost
  • Property damage
  • Contract payment
  • Loan balance
  • Refund
  • Reimbursement
  • Replacement cost
  • Rent-related money claim
  • Another claimed financial loss

The customer should disclose:

  • Prior payments
  • Credits
  • Refunds
  • Insurance proceeds
  • Chargebacks
  • Settlements
  • Returned property
  • Replacement items
  • Other amounts that may affect the requested total

Lake Mead Mobile Notary does not determine legally recoverable damages, interest, statutory penalties, attorney fees, or punitive damages.

Supporting Records and Exhibits

The customer may submit:

  • Contract
  • Invoice
  • Receipt
  • Estimate
  • Photograph
  • Screenshot
  • Email
  • Text message
  • Letter
  • Account statement
  • Payment record
  • Return or refund record
  • Property record
  • Inspection record
  • Other supporting material

The customer should provide original electronic files whenever possible rather than screenshots of incomplete records.

Exhibit preparation may include:

  • Removing exact duplicates
  • Rotating pages
  • Ordering records chronologically
  • Applying simple exhibit labels
  • Creating a factual exhibit list
  • Combining related pages
  • Separating unrelated documents
  • Improving basic scan readability
  • Creating a review PDF

Exhibit preparation does not include altering evidence, recreating missing records, changing dates, removing unfavorable information, or presenting a legal argument.

Electronic Filing

Before electronic submission, the customer must review and approve:

  • Plaintiff name
  • Defendant name
  • Claim amount
  • Factual statement
  • Court
  • Filing transaction
  • Attached documents
  • Filing fee
  • Email address
  • Final submission authorization

Las Vegas Justice Court requires electronic filing for civil matters and uses electronic delivery for the file-stamped copy.

Court fees, filing-platform charges, and other third-party costs are additional.

Service After Filing

Filing the complaint does not serve the defendant.

After filing, the customer must arrange for delivery of the required documents through a legally authorized person or provider. Las Vegas small claims service generally requires delivery of the complaint and summons, followed by filing the server’s affidavit or proof.

Formal service is not performed or coordinated by Lake Mead Mobile Notary.

The customer may need to work directly with:

  • Private process server
  • Constable
  • Sheriff
  • Another provider authorized for the required service

The customer remains responsible for the service deadline and filing the completed proof.

Depending on the selected tier, the confirmed scope may include:

Before You Start

Confirm That the Claim Seeks Money

Ordinary small claims is generally intended for recovery of money.

A different procedure may be required when the customer primarily wants:

  • Property returned
  • Tenant removed
  • Contract performed
  • Injunction issued
  • Title decided
  • Custody changed
  • Criminal charges pursued
  • Government action compelled
  • Another nonmonetary result

Lake Mead Mobile Notary does not determine the correct lawsuit when the requested remedy is uncertain.

Confirm Las Vegas Justice Court Is the Correct Court

The customer must select the proper court and township.

Venue may depend on facts concerning:

  • Defendant’s residence
  • Defendant’s employment
  • Defendant’s business location
  • Place of injury
  • Place of transaction
  • Place where a contractual obligation was to be performed

Nevada law identifies several potential venue bases for small claims actions.

A dispute may belong in Henderson, North Las Vegas, Boulder City, Laughlin, Mesquite, another Clark County township, or another jurisdiction.

A Written Demand Letter Is Not Always Required in Las Vegas

Do not delay intake solely because the customer lacks a formal certified demand letter.

Las Vegas Justice Court currently states that a prior demand may be made verbally, by email, text, or letter.

The customer should still identify:

  • What was demanded
  • When the demand was made
  • How it was communicated
  • Whether the defendant responded
  • Whether any amount was paid
  • Whether a written record exists

A current court form, fee-waiver workflow, statute, contract, or professional instruction may impose additional requirements. Those requirements must be verified for the selected filing path.

The Customer Must Choose the Defendant

Lake Mead Mobile Notary cannot decide whether the claim should name:

  • Individual
  • Business
  • Owner
  • Employee
  • Contractor
  • Landlord
  • Property manager
  • Registered agent
  • Several defendants
  • Another party

Incorrect defendant information can cause service problems, dismissal, or collection difficulty.

Multiple Defendants Increase the Scope

Each additional defendant may require:

  • Separate legal-name verification
  • Separate address
  • Separate registered-agent information
  • Separate factual role
  • Additional complaint information
  • Separate service packet
  • Separate proof of service
  • Additional copies
  • Additional filing and service costs

Multiple-defendant work is an added complexity level, not a separate CMS service.

Provide Facts, Not Conclusions

The customer should describe:

  • What happened
  • Who was involved
  • What was promised
  • What was paid
  • What was delivered
  • What was not completed
  • What amount remains
  • What records support the account

Lake Mead Mobile Notary cannot:

  • Invent facts
  • Select legal claims
  • Strengthen allegations
  • Calculate legally recoverable damages
  • Research legal theories
  • Determine negligence or fraud
  • Predict the outcome
  • Coach testimony
  • Create evidence
  • Hide conflicting records

Keep the Claim Calculation Clear

The requested amount should be supported by a straightforward calculation.

Avoid submitting a lump sum without identifying its components.

The customer should separately identify:

  • Principal amount
  • Payments
  • Credits
  • Refunds
  • Replacement costs
  • Repair costs
  • Other customer-selected components

Interest, penalties, attorney fees, and other legally dependent amounts should not be included without a reliable basis selected by the customer or supplied by a qualified professional.

Do Not Submit Unapproved Exhibits

Every filing attachment must be reviewed and approved by the customer.

The customer should check for:

  • Incorrect names
  • Private information
  • Account numbers
  • Social Security numbers
  • Minor children’s information
  • Medical information
  • Irrelevant pages
  • Duplicate pages
  • Incomplete screenshots
  • Privileged communication
  • Sealed records
  • Documents involving unrelated people

Redaction questions requiring legal judgment should be referred for professional review.

Initial Filing Exhibits and Hearing Exhibits May Differ

A customer may have records that support the case but are not included with the opening complaint.

Las Vegas Justice Court publishes a separate procedure for presenting hearing exhibits.

The customer remains responsible for deciding which approved documents are submitted at each stage.

Electronic Filing Does Not Serve the Defendant

The filed complaint and summons must still be delivered through the required service procedure.

Lake Mead Mobile Notary does not:

  • Perform service
  • Select a process server
  • Manage service attempts
  • Calculate the service deadline
  • Sign the server’s affidavit
  • File a false proof
  • Guarantee successful service

Stay Available During E-Filing

The customer should remain reachable in case:

  • Court fee differs
  • Filing platform requests clarification
  • Defendant information is incomplete
  • Filing is rejected
  • Another document is required
  • Customer approval is needed
  • File must be corrected
  • Filing date must change

Lake Mead Mobile Notary will not make substantive decisions without authorization.

Filing Fees and Third-Party Costs Are Separate

The standard preparation scope does not include:

  • Court filing fee
  • Filing-platform fee
  • Service fee charged by an outside provider
  • Sheriff or constable fee
  • Certified-mail charge
  • Printing beyond the accepted scope
  • Postage
  • Shipping
  • Court-copy charge
  • Other government or third-party expenses

The customer must authorize outside costs before submission.

A Fee-Waiver Request Is a Separate Qualification Issue

A customer unable to pay the filing fee may have access to a court fee-waiver procedure.

The court may require:

  • Separate application
  • Financial information
  • Supporting documents
  • Additional filing components
  • Judicial review
  • Additional demand-related records under the current workflow

Lake Mead Mobile Notary does not determine eligibility or guarantee approval.

Filing Rejection Is Not Automatically Included

A rejection may require:

  • Technical correction
  • New PDF
  • Corrected party information
  • Different filing code
  • Additional form
  • New customer approval
  • Court clarification
  • Substantive document revision

Minor correction may be included only when stated in the accepted tier.

Material rejection correction and resubmission require separate review.

Service Does Not Include Later Case Stages

The standard small-claims preparation scope does not include:

  • Small Claims Answer
  • Counterclaim
  • Counterclaim Reply
  • Amended Complaint after filing
  • Motion
  • Opposition
  • Continuance request
  • Certified-mail service motion
  • Hearing preparation
  • Exhibit submission for trial
  • Witness subpoena
  • Mediation representation
  • Court appearance
  • Default judgment
  • Judgment collection
  • Garnishment
  • Execution
  • Appeal
  • Attorney representation

Those stages require separate review or outside professional assistance.

Separate Services and Third-Party Costs

The standard scope does not include:

  • Legal advice
  • Attorney review
  • Defendant selection
  • Venue determination
  • Legal research
  • Cause-of-action selection
  • Damage analysis
  • Deadline calculation
  • Formal service of process
  • Court appearance
  • Hearing coaching
  • Witness preparation
  • Judgment enforcement
  • Appeal
  • Court fees
  • Filing-platform charges
  • Service-provider charges
  • Postage or shipping
  • Revisions outside the selected tier

A customer-directed demand letter, mailing, filing, printing, or other administrative work is included only when expressly stated in the selected package.

Preparation and Filing Do Not Guarantee the Result

Lake Mead Mobile Notary does not guarantee:

  • Las Vegas Justice Court is the correct venue
  • Correct defendant was selected
  • Claim is legally sufficient
  • Requested amount is recoverable
  • Filing will be accepted
  • Fee waiver will be approved
  • Defendant can be served
  • Court will consider every exhibit
  • Customer will prevail
  • Judgment will be collectible
  • Defendant will pay
  • Additional filings will not be required
  • Attorney assistance will not be needed

The customer remains responsible for the claim decisions, supplied facts, defendant selection, court selection, filing deadlines, service, hearing, and collection.
